Have you ever suffered from too much information all in one sitting? Some call it “information overload” and if you are like me, you’ve probably experience that when you were searching the internet for Free Dog Kennel Plans.

My wife was awfully upset with me a week ago, when I brought home an old stray dog that not only smelled bad but appeared to have no idea he was not supposed to use the bathroom in the house!  And of all places, our private bathroom upstairs! While I still couldn’t figure how he managed to sneak into our room unnoticed, my wife went straight to the point and said that if I was going to keep the poor mutt, he would have to live outside.  So, I went online and typed in “free dog kennel plans”.

Now, I love woodworking and am familiar when it comes to other kinds of plans and the materials needed, and even other surrouding details such as the garden and landscaping, but I thought I’d give the internet a go with this one. Just out of sheer curiosity. To my surprise, I never knew there were so many options out there for a structure you could build to house your pooch!  The one I chose also incorporated a dog run as well.

The important thing to remember is not only does your kennel need to be comfortable for your pet; it needs to be built from materials that will last in a harsh environment.  This could mean a pressure treated wood, but the chemicals could be bad for your dog, especially if he is a chewer! And in my case, I think I got the chiefest of them all! And for that matter, don’t tell my wife about her favorite orange-colored robe lying carelessly in our bed. I’m sure you have an idea of what already happened! Am off to find a replacement that closely resembles it as soon as this article is through.

Speaking from experience though, the frame and portions that the dog does not have access to can be built with pressure treated lumber, but you may want to either use a composite building material or a type of wood, like cedar, one that would hold up to weather and is not prone to rotting.

Make sure you choose a set of plans that not only allow your dog to enjoy the sun but to get out of it as well and that has plenty of cross ventilation.  You will want to provide a sheltered area that you can line with straw or an old blanket if you live in a cold weather climate.

I did benefit a lot from all the free dog kennel plans I could find, but still ended up getting a set of plans that were more organized, systematic and contained clear and precise instructions that even your six-year old son could follow to the tee! I thought they were gonna cost a ton, but once again, the internet proved me wrong. And now, I’m finally at peace with my wife! Priceless!

Oh one more thing! Make sure the kennel is big enough if your dog will be penned up for long periods of time.  Not only is it uncomfortable and your will pooch get bored and pick up bad habits if he is too closely penned in, but it is unhealthy for him as well!

There are a lot of free dog kennel plans that you can find online, but one is a-cut above the rest and worth the nominal cost. And your skill level does not matter! Check out http://woodworkingfromhome.info right now and never postpone another project again!
