i am wondering what lime will do to a dog if it gets on it? My shepherd has hyperkeratinosis and raw feet now,, after using limein the yard.. my other dogs are fine. no one seems to know what to do for him… we have been to 2 different animal hospitals,,,, please give me some feedback,,,

agricultural lime is stronger than garden lime. I’m not a chemist. A lot of people will use garden lime to sweeten their lawns, and neutralize urine spots in the lawn. If you are going to use it in kennel I would use extreme caution. Make sure that you rake up all feces. Apply lime with spreader if you have one and water it in well. Lime will burn dogs pads. That is why you want to water it in well. You can also purchase pelletized lime, (garden lime) It drops better from a spreader. It also has to be watered in. Agricultural lime, used full strength will decompose animal carcases. This harsher product can be found at local farm stores, higher concentrate so use less.
Our local sewage plant purchases garden lime from Lowes, where I worked. so it is used to neutralize foul odors of excrement. Just be careful when it comes to your dogs. I would set a sprinkler inside their kennel and let it run for an hour or two. just to be safe.

Most outdoor lime can burn an dogs if it gets moist. Lime is considered in HAZMAT situations as a caustic agent. I have used lime then covered it with shavings or turned it into the soil wet it, let it dry and put down shavings. I now use a product called Quatricide PV. Safer and kills the smell but costs more.
