Anything to do with flees or ticks make sure you treat your dog first, I recommend and have been using for many years frontline,
Here is the thing with flees..You dog or you or anyone can bring them into your home, they will use to transport them selves and then jump off and live in your carpet or walls.
If you have them in your house try to find an all natural power to use on your carpet, and rem after you vac you must thorw the bag away cause they can live in the vac bag.
You may want to use Boax It is found in the laundry isle I have not used but I have heard about it lay it on the carpet , sweep it in with a broom and let it sit for awhile, then vacuum it up. it supposedly smothers fleas
you can call your vet to or any vet to ask them what they would recomend
put rembemer treat your pet and with front line when you apply it it goes on the back of the neak were they can not reach and get it on there skin, spread the fur so you can get a clean view of there skin, also no bath 2 days before or 2 days after.
Make sure that anything you use in your house is not harmful to your pet, I know you know that already but its always good to say again
good luck with every thing

did u ask when you bought the stuff?? best of luck!

That stuff only works indoors. A breeze will blow the powder away. It would defeat the whole purpose. Try going to Home Depot or Wal-Mart and looking for a lawn pesticide. There's some stuff you can spread out on your yard to kill fleas and what not. Some of those products you have to wet down once you've spread it out and your animals can't be on the grass for at least 24 hours after that so make sure you read on the packaging what each different product requires you to do and how long its safe until your dog can leave his kennel.
